Can you give me the cost of a specific item?
This website shows an estimated price for each item to be used for comparison purposes only. Sauder furniture is only sold through retail stores and catalogs, so prices may vary. You may want to shop around for the best price.

What’s your furniture made of?
An environmentally friendly material called "engineered wood," a combination of high quality hard wood and soft wood materials which are residuals of other lumber processes. These materials are bonded together with a synthetic resin, then applied to high heat and pressure. The result is dense, strong panels which are then laminated and cut into pieces.

What do I use to clean your product?
Simply clean with your favorite furniture polish or a damp cloth, then wipe dry.

  top

Do they come unfinished? Can I paint/varnish?
All Sauder furniture has a paper laminate finish that cannot be painted or varnished. While our pieces are not available unfinished, you can get them in most popular wood colors, as well as black and white.

  top

Does the laminate have a protective coating?
The laminate finish is applied using a special in-house process that gives the piece of furniture its beautiful finish with a protective finish.

  top

What finishes are available?
We can send a color sample to you to help match an existing color. Usually a model number is part of a "Collection" and is only available in the color illustrated in our brochure. Some "Collections" come in more than one color. Unfortunately, we are not able to build custom furniture.

What are the dimensions? Will it hold my TV, VCR, computer, etc.?
Sauder furniture is designed to hold most popular audio, video and computer equipment. However, there’s simply no way to design furniture that will hold all makes and models. To be sure you’re getting the space you need, measure your equipment, then check the furniture dimensions listed in our brochures or on the furniture cartons. Sauder Consumer Service Department can also help you with exact measurements of inside compartments and shelves.

  top

Is it waterproof?
Yes and No. If something is spilled on the surface and is wiped up, no damage will be done. If the liquid is left on the surface for a long period of time, the board will absorb the liquid and cause damage to the board (just like solid wood).

How long does it take to assemble a piece of Sauder furniture?
Assembly times can vary considerably. Some models can be assembled in an hour or two, while others may take several hours. The assembly process is relatively simple, but can be time consuming. The more experience you have with our furniture, the faster the job will go. Working with someone can also cut your assembly time considerably.

  top

Do you offer home assembly?
Not directly, but we may be able to help you find someone who assembles in your area. Please call our Consumer Service Representatives from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time Monday thru Friday for assembly assistance over the phone.

  top

What tools will I need?
A #2 Phillips screwdriver and a hammer. Although it may prove helpful during assembly of our larger items, using a power screwdriver could cause damage to your furniture if screws are over tightened. A tape measure and/or an adjustable wrench may occasionally be used on some of our furniture.

  top

Can I add casters to my furniture?
No! If the unit was not designed with casters, it is not safe to add casters. If you add casters, your warranty is VOID.

  top

Can I leave the back off?
No! The back adds stability to the unit, and it makes the unit square. The unit is not safe without the back properly assembled.

  top

Will I need more help than the instructions offer?
We do everything we can to make our assembly instructions clear and thorough. Things like illustrating each step in the assembly process, providing full-size drawings of screws and hardware, and labeling each major piece with a lettered sticker so it’s easy to identify.

But rest assured, if you ever have difficulty in assembling a piece of Sauder furniture, a trained furniture technician is just a free phone call away, every Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Eastern Time and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
