Find your Perfect Furniture Arrangement
It’s the time of year when I want to mix things up. The weather is (finally) getting warm, and I’m compelled to switch up the spaces I’ve been cooped up in all winter.
If you ask me, the easiest way to revive your space isn’t buying new throw pillows or a few scented candles (although that sounds fun!). And it won’t take all weekend. Oh, did I mention it’s FREE?
Get a completely new look and freshen up your feng shui with a new furniture arrangement. It’s easy, I swear. (Except for the heavy lifting, of course.)
Consider these three things when mixing up your furniture arrangement:
Although I can’t help you with the first two of these, I can give some guidance on the third. If you’ve defined how you want your space to be used, try one of these furniture arrangements — perfect for those summer get-togethers that are right around the corner.
U-shape: Creating conversation
If you’re anything like me, you like to chat. Whether it’s for a girls’ night for me or my hubby’s fantasy football draft, our living room furniture arrangement is set up to spark conversation. Float furniture away from walls to make the room seem larger, and invite conversation by creating a sense of intimacy. We’re all friends here, right?
H-shape: Dividing a large space
In a multipurpose space — like a loft apartment or open-concept kitchen/living room combo — use furniture to create separate spaces. Create a pseudo-wall with a bookshelf or sofa to divide a living room and kitchen. Or place a line of low shelves in the bedroom to divide the sleeping area from your office space. Viola! Two for the price of one!
V-shape: Drawing attention to one focal point
Instead of arranging furniture directly in front of a focal point, use a V-shape arrangement. Create space for lounging with ottomans that can be easily repositioned as footrests or used with a decorative tray for an extra end table for drinks and snacks when entertaining guests. Just add popcorn, and you’re ready for movie night.
What other ways do you use your space? Leave us a comment with the purpose of your room, and we’ll help find a furniture arrangement that’ll work for you.

Consider these three things when mixing up your furniture arrangement:
1) Traffic patterns — How do you get into and out of the space? Are there frequently traveled pathways that should remain free?
2) Scale of furniture — Does your space really require a full-size sofa, or would two upholstered chairs work in its place? Can versatile, mobile storage ottomans take the place of a bulky coffee table?
3) Purpose of room — What are you doing in the room? Is it for relaxing or entertaining, movie night or casual dining?
