Sauder Expands Funeral Products Manufacturing Facility; Positions Casket Business for Growth

ARCHBOLD, Ohio, April 22, 2010 – Sauder Funeral Products, a wholly-owned brand of Sauder Woodworking Co., has recently moved its funeral products manufacturing division into an expanded facility on its campus in Archbold, Ohio. The new location includes 60,000 square feet of manufacturing and office space, providing dedicated support to the steadily growing casket business.

“We are certainly excited about expanding and moving our casket factory to a new location since it will allow us to improve our production efficiencies as well as add capacity,” said Dan Sauder, vice president of engineering. “This will give us the room we need to produce caskets for all of North America.”

Sauder Funeral Products has seen steady growth in its casket business over the past two years, with additional distributors added monthly. To support this continued growth, SFP component parts are produced at Sauder’s ready-to-assemble (RTA) furniture division which operates three production shifts covering nearly four million square feet of manufacturing capacity.

“We see our casket product line as a key growth opportunity that really leverages our core strength of offering an incredible value to our customers,” said Sauder. “This great value proposition has generated much interest from distributors all around the U.S.”

Sustainability has been a key ingredient to the Sauder companies’ mission. SFP products are made with engineered wood, an environmentally responsible material made from high quality soft and hardwood trimmings and other formerly wasted wood products that remain after the milling of lumber and plywood.

Sauder’s furniture business has experienced recent trends toward consumer purchases of more moderately-priced furnishings. Added Sauder, “We believe that there are similar trends toward consumers buying more reasonably-priced caskets and environmentally friendly products. Our caskets are positioned to help funeral homes take advantage of these trends.”

Headquartered in Archbold, Ohio, Sauder Woodworking Co. is North America’s leading producer of RTA furniture and the nation’s fifth largest residential furniture manufacturer.

Sauder Woodworking Co. is a privately-held, third generation, family-run business. Subsidiaries include: Progressive Furniture Inc., a manufacturer and importer of traditional solid wood, veneered and laminate furniture; and Sauder Manufacturing Company, a leader in church, educational, and health care seating.

In 2009, the Sauder company celebrated its 75 th anniversary. For additional information about Sauder, visit the company's website at www.sauder.com or the Sauder Funeral Products website at www.sauderfuneralproducts.com .
